Clients can experience SOMA in 2 ways:
A single treatment session inspired by the techniques of SOMA. Somassage® addresses specific injuries while also bringing the body back into balance. Somassage® is highly effective in releasing tension, increasing flexibility and promoting relaxation. Somassage® can be effective as a single treatment session but will not result in long-lasting change.
An 11 session treatment plan in which different segments of the body are addressed in each session. During this process, imbalances and restrictions in the soft tissue are unravelled resulting in postural realignment and more efficient and easeful functioning. The series can often result in long lasting change.
Session 1: Rib Cage
Focus: Releasing the tissue surrounding the rib cage and lengthen the lower back.
Results: Fuller capacity for breath, increased energy, a more upright posture and a sense of lightness and well-being
Session 2: Legs & Feet
Focus: The body’s foundation: lower legs and feet.
Results: Increased flexibility and stability in ankles and feet. A sense of being firmly grounded and in touch with reality.
Session 3: Sidelines
Focus: Lengthening the sidelines and freeing the shoulder girdle.
Results: Expanded breathing, increased shoulder range of motion, greater relaxation and more immediately available energy
Sessions 4, 5 & 6: Core
Focus: Adjust and lengthen the center line, or core, that runs vertically through the body.
Results: Increased capacity to stabilize through core musculature. Better balance and freedom of movement. Walking takes a fraction of the energy typically expended
Session 7: Head and Neck
Focus: Release the muscles of the neck, head and face.
Results: Increased range of motion of neck, a more softened and relaxed appearance in the face and Increased self-reliance and personal power
Sessions 8, 9 & 10: Integration
Focus: Integrate the whole body in a new and more efficient manner, solidify structural improvements made in sessions 1-7. Movement education and repatterning.
Results: Less stress and increased energy as the body integrates into an efficiently functioning whole.
Session 11: Arms
Focus: Release and integrate the hands, arms and shoulders.
Results: Greater ease and stability through the shoulders and arms as they are connected through the entire torso.
